My 4 year old daughter has Asperger's and Sensory Integration.

1 in 150 children will be diagnosed with Autism. Every 20 minutes another family is told thier child has Autism.

choosing wisely

I'm a fairly easy going person. I said fairly. I try not to get upset over the small things, but like any human being, I get upset over the small things, too.

There are a few things that I wish people would not say to me.

  1. "You look great for having three kids."
  2. "Three girls, you must be busy, huh?"
  3. "Asperger's, oh well, that's not real Autism."
  4. "She'll grow out if it, right?" (in refrence to Asperger's)
  5. "It could be worse." (In refrence to Asperger's)
  6. "It get's easier." (in refrence to having 3 kids.")
  7. "I hate dogs." (or cats, or animals in general)

And what I'd like to say in response:

  • Shut up.
  • Shut up.
  • Shut up.
  • Yes, much like a hair cut, oh and shutup.
  • Shut up.
  • I hate you. Shut up.

Some people just don't get that when you don't know what to say, it's okay to just say nothing. And I'll never understand people that have to pick a type of animal to hate.

Pisses me off when someone attributes the fact that I have good kids to "luck." Yeah, our parenting had nothing to do with it.

Another good one is "you're slim so you don't need to worry about calories." Um, hello, how do you think . . . ah, nevermind!!

I guess sometimes people don't realize that their "compliments" are often offensive.
